Kerala Flood Relief.

 

  • WHY? – On 16 August 2018, severe floods affected the south Indian state Kerala, due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. It was the worst flood in Kerala in nearly a century. Over 483 people died, and 140 are missing. About a million people were evacuated.
  • Impact –30+ Lakhs was raised for the flood relief. 5 houses were built by TUF, each house was built in an area of 458 Sq. Ft. with a costing of Rs. Four lakhs each. The total cost for the complete GAH project comprising of five homes was accomplished in Rs. Twenty Lakhs.

What TUF did –

The United Foundation in association with HIRA welfare trust is working diligently in providing aid to the flood-hit state of Kerala. Donations are actively being directed to the Charge Officer of District Emergency Operating Centre, Wayanad. A centralized relief store is sparing no effort in reaching out to those in desperate conditions. Having created an Emergency Response Team along with other NGO’s TUF is ensuring maximum relief to the victims of the unprecedented floods. With strong support from the ground team— food, medicines and other daily utilities are reaching those affected. Whilst the forecast continues to remain grim and the death toll increases, The United Foundation appeals to the citizens of India to contribute towards the flood relief. It is our duty to help the distressed state of Kerala, ‘God’s own country.’ United Let’s help Kerala. 104. Fm, campaign. First ert was created. Partnered with thanal and HWA. 

Houses were constructed as part of flood relief looking at the urgency the beneficiaries faced due to their homes being destroyed and no other place to go, the project was built using V board, which is one of the most cost effective technologies currently used in construction Industry as well as the little time the project takes to build. Apart from that the houses are tested for the common catastrophes and are fire proof.
